Pure Fun: Kids’ Soap Crafts

Make Your Own Special Bars of Soap for the Holidays or Any Other Special Time! What You’ll Need to Begin:
• 2-3 cups of soap flakes
• Liquid food coloring
• Water
• Vegetable oil
• Bowl
• Optional – Greased candy molds to shape your designs
• Optional – Greased cookie cutters
• Optional – String (for soap on a rope)

What to Do:
• Begin by grating soap bars (get an adult to help, if needed) into a fine soap powder in the bowl. Stop when you have approximately 3 cups of soap flakes.
• Add 10-30 drops food coloring to 1/3 cup of water, until you reach the color you want.
• Now, add colored water to the soap powder until it is the consistency of play dough. Add more water gradually, one teaspoon at a time, if needed.
• Mix with your hands!
• Rub a couple drops of vegetable oil to your hands to keep the soap mixture from sticking. Take the mixture out of the bowl and shape it, using the cookie cutters to make soap shapes, or press it into greased candy molds for beautiful, small guest soaps.
• If you’d like to place the soap on a rope, cut the string, tie the ends together and gently push the end with the knot into your soap design until it is hidden.
• Let your soap creation dry overnight!
